Percussion Workshops
23 September 2025
🥁✨ Percussion Workshops for schools ✨🥁
What an inspiring few days! Together with the talented Justice Hakata, we presented percussion workshops at Corrie Lynn Primary School and Hawkstone Primary School.
From Grade R through to Grade 7, the children had an absolute blast exploring rhythm, movement and music. 🎶 Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious!
It was also wonderful to see teachers observing, learning, and even joining in — discovering new ways to bring music into their classrooms and everyday teaching. 🌟
Thank you to both schools for welcoming us so warmly — and to Justice for sharing his skills and passion with our community. ❤️

We get to see such beautiful places through our music. We played for the LUM Festive Season launch up at the Karkloof Falls. Gorgeous scenery all around us.
Grand Opening of Hilton Siding
30 November 2022
The grand opening of the Hilton Siding Shopping Centre was an event not to be missed. We love being invited to community events such as this because we get a chance to connect with prominent members of the community as well as our own friends and supporters. We met up with the mayor of uMngeni – Chris Pappas, Makhubalo the Storyteller, and many more. Makhubalo had his picture taken with us. He said, ” They are truly a soundtrack of a community growing, passionate and inspiring.” What a wonderful event!

Our recorder group and violin students from Lions River Primary School, travelled to The Wykeham Collegiate in Pietermaritzburg to participate in the SASMT Eisteddfod. These kinds of excursions are so exciting for the children. We are so proud of their results! Our groups received 2 silvers and a gold, while our private violin students went away with golds all round! Of course the event was was followed by the obligatory ice cream treat on the way home. What a wonderful experience for all!
Autumn Wedding In The Berg
21 May 2022
Reflecting on the last few years and how our marimba band has gone from beginner to professional reminds me why we do the work we do. Being booked to play at a wedding is an honour and at this one in the Drakensberg, we played our hearts out. No rainy weather could put a dampener on our performance or the day. What a beautiful wedding it was and blessed with a rainbow at the end. I am so proud of these fine young musicians! Thank you Nicky and Adrian for having us be part of your special day. Thank you to our sponsors for making these experiences possible.
Autumn Arts Camp
8,9 April 2022
A cold April weekend saw us involved in an Arts Camp at The Old Mushroom Farm outside Howick. We joined the Super Troupers Dance group from PMB and together with some attendees from the public we enjoyed a packed programme of activities including worskshops in vocals, marimba, ballet rip, Izinganekwane (folktales) among others. The two highlights were a choreographed piece accompanied by our marimbas and the Izinganekwane, which we all acted out and showed such confidence and imagination. Howick and the Midlands really has so many amazing people, places and things going on, we are truly blessed.
Busking Gigs
26 March & 2 April 2022
We love playing gigs. They give us a chance to meet people in our community, play our music and of course, raise money for the Music Voyage project. The Karkloof Farmers’ Market is an iconic Midlands must for locals and visitors, offering everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to delicious home-baked treats and organic products. The month of March was dedicated to live music and we were priveleged to be invited to play on Saturday 26 March. We met people from all over, even from the USA! St John’s Village Lifestyle Centre was next on our gig schedule. We played for appreciative passers by who stopped, listened and generously donated into our tip box.
Bambisanani Banquet – Love Howick
23 February 2022
It was wonderful to be part of this community event in Howick, which hosted many local projects and supporters. The marimba band entertained the visitors outside and then quickly moved their instruments into the auditorium to perform as an item during the presentation. Love Howick is a local organisation whose aim is to bring about positive change in our community. Their motto is, “Together for Transformation”. We are so pleased to be working closely with such a remarkable and inspiring project.
uMngeni Tourism Launch event
24 February 2022
When our marimba band was invited to play at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site as part of the launch of uMngeni Tourism and the “Midlands My Way” campaign, we were naturally honoured and very excited. The various municipality members had been inspired by their performance at the December “Light the Falls” event and wanted them back! The band played their hearts out and the crowd loved the energy and vibe the band created for the visitors. Subsequently, Estelle Sinkins from the Village Talk published an article in the newspaper about the event and used a beautiful photo of the band. A proud moment!
Some comments from the public:
“Always so good to have the marimba vibe. Quintessentially Midlands. No fabulous function should be without Music Voyage energy,” Nikki Brighton. Our Mayor Chris Pappas said, “Awesome as usual, thank you!” Mr Gcumisa had this to say, “I have a great admiration for your work, you may not know this but it means a lot to be given an exposure especially for some of us coming from communities with so limited resources. I truly adore your work.”

Light The Falls
18 December 2021
The marimba band ended the year on a high note by being invited to perform at the Umngeni “Light the Falls” event in December. This was a huge compliment to the band. It was a wonderful and uplifting experience for the whole community and the Music Voyage team were thrilled by the appreciation they received from their huge audience.
